For Don (Feb 2023)
Hi Don :)
Here are some contacts/resources that I often use to keep up to date with horror. I hope that they’re useful.
Journalists
Louise Blaine - You already know Louise :) I LOVE her work.
Keith Stuart - Author, previous Games Editor for the Guardian and wonderful human.
Keza McDonald - Current Games Editor for the Guardian and author of dark Souls companion, ‘You Died;.
Ash Millman - PlayStation Access horror aficionado.
Social Media(ish)
https://twitter.com/horrorvisuals - This account highlights upcoming indie horror content daily. Every Friday they retweet all horror creators who tag them. This often exposes some cool games!
Searching hashtags #horrorgames with #indiegames often exposes some gems on Twitter. Sounds a little obvious, but works.
https://twitter.com/cvxfreak - Alex wrote the unofficial history of Resident Evil and is well connected to the horror community.
https://twitter.com/slimyswampghost - Not horror games specifically, but posts horror art and referenes regularly and seems to be well connected to other horror creatives
https://store.steampowered.com/category/horror - Again, obvious but Steam has some absolute horror gems lurking.
https://discord.gg/ZRXpvhpf - I am not a Discord user but this Horror Discord has been recommended to me a couple of times.
Events
Events in the UK such as WASD and EGX always have playable indie game areas. They often have a separate track of B2B pitching sessions too, which often surfaces great content.
BAFTA Events - Cross-industry events, with many masterclasses and Q&A sessions now being held online. BAFTA also have an emerging US branch, if you’d like to be introduced.
Friends
Gary Napper - Excellent human who was the Creative Director for Alien Isolation, subsequently moving to Supermassive Games.
Barney Pratt - Sound legend (Audio Director) at Supermassive Games. Has been incredible in helping me with my Horror research. An approachable, knowledgeable, talented man. He is very well connected in the horror audio space.
Rui Craveirinha - Head of Research at Player Research, testing and balancing games. A huge horror fan, with great insight into the craft.
Teresa Lynch - My key contact in Horror Psychology research.
Naomi Kotler - Was an experience designer at Supermassive, now Ninja Theory. Very talented lady.
Catherine Woolley - Game Designer, BAFTA Committee member and industry role model. Catherine is wonderful. Was previously Game Designer on Alien Isolation, now at Media Molecule.
